The ongoing redevelopment of Olenguruone Stadium in Kuresoi South is set to become a game-changer for sports development in Nakuru County. The project, being undertaken through a partnership between the County Government of Nakuru and the Kenya Defence Forces, reflects the county’s commitment to expanding access to quality sporting facilities and nurturing the next generation of athletes.Once complete, the modern stadium will feature a 3,000-seater pavilion, fully equipped changing rooms, a standard football pitch, athletics running tracks, and indoor courts designed to accommodate a variety of sporting disciplines. The upgraded facility will provide athletes with a world-class environment for training, competition, and talent development. The stadium is expected to complement the soon-to-be-completed Afraha Stadium by increasing Nakuru’s capacity to host local, national, and international sporting events. It will also serve as a hub for youth development programmes, talent identification, sports academies, and community activities.Kuresoi South has long been recognized as a cradle of athletic excellence, having produced world champion Faith Kipyegon alongside many other accomplished athletes. The investment in Olenguruone Stadium seeks to build on this rich sporting heritage by providing young people with the facilities and opportunities needed to develop their talents and pursue successful sporting careers.”For many years, our young people have had talent but lacked a proper place to train and compete. This stadium is giving them hope and a chance to dream bigger. We are grateful because it will help nurture future champions from Kuresoi South,” said a resident.Beyond its sporting significance, the project is expected to stimulate the local economy by creating business opportunities for traders, attracting visitors during competitions, and promoting sports tourism within the county.Through strategic partnerships and sustained investment in modern sports infrastructure, the County Government of Nakuru continues to strengthen its vision of positioning the county as a leading destination for sports excellence while empowering youth and fostering community development.
